Acquire Community

The Starlight Foundation

“We work with the Starlight Foundation because their work changes lives. At a time when a child may be struggling the most, they are right there, just like Acquire is with its customers, to offer guidance and support.”

The Starlight Foundation aims to disrupt the world of sick kids and their families by replacing pain, stress and fear with fun, joy and laughter. They are a powerful, positive force that delivers immediate long-term benefits to kids and families such as empowerment, resilience and facilitating connections.

To raise money for the Starlight Foundation (and another worthwhile cause, Variety), Paralympic gold medallist Dylan Alcott participated in a world-record attempt of 24 hours of continuous wheelchair tennis. He aimed to raise $100,000, and Acquire partnered with Dylan to deliver a substantial contribution towards his ambitious target. Dylan completed the challenge and went on to win the Australian Open Wheelchair Quad title just months later!

Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre

“The Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre (MAPrc) is exploring and unlocking the secrets of the brain to help mend minds. The centre works to develop treatments for mental disorders, including depression and anxiety, which can rob people of happiness. Many people are touched by mental illnesses – through experiencing a disorder themselves, caring for a loved one with mental illness or working with someone who is struggling with an "invisible" and often disabling disease.”

Mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, depression and anxiety can be crippling. These illnesses can severely affect the quality of a sufferer’s life, and can even shorten life expectancy. The affected person’s family suffers greatly as a result and there is a huge cost to the community, both through the burden of care of the sufferer and the loss of that individual’s contribution to the community.

The MAPrc is striving to develop new treatments, new understanding and new services to assist those living with a mental illness. MAPrc is on a mission to conduct world-class psychiatric research with respect, equality and understanding.

Acquire Learning partnered with MAPrc to support the de Castella Run 2 Mend Minds. We initially donated $10,000 to become naming rights sponsors of the event, but we didn't stop there. We organised the Brunch2 Mend Minds in the lead up to the run. The event, attended by senior business leaders, was a resounding success in that it promoted awareness of the incredible work MAPrc carries out in the community. In a matter of hours an additional $6000 was raised.

The Alannah and Madeline Foundation

“The Alannah and Madeline Foundation strives to give children the strongest start in life, which aligns with our commitment to assisting people later in life to be the best they can be. We are proud to support the work of AMF and believe whole-heartedly in their commitment.”

The Alannah and Madeline Foundation is a national charity protecting children from violence and its devastating impact. The charity was established in memory of Alannah and Madeline Mikac who were tragically killed with their mother and 32 others at Port Arthur, Tasmania on 28th April 1996. The charity cares for children who have experienced or witnessed serious violence, and runs preventative programs and advocates for children’s safety and well-being. Their vision is that children will live in a safe and supportive environment.

The Alannah and Madeline Foundation teamed up with UK teenage duo Bars and Melody on their visit to Australia to spread their powerful anti-bullying message, seeing them appear on morning TV, perform at the charity’s annual gala dinner and visit numerous schools. Acquire Learning provided financial support to bring band members Charlie and Leo, who became an overnight sensation on Britain’s Got Talent for their rap song around anti-bullying entitled “Hopeful”, to the country.

The Smith Family

“The Smith Family’s emphasis on the importance of education is something we strongly support. They offer assistance to unprivileged kids to help give them the best chance of a better future. For them and for people from all walks of life, we aim to be a continuation of their journey to reach their best.”

The Smith Family is a national, independent children's charity helping disadvantaged Australians to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves. They believe every child deserves a chance and are committed to creating opportunities for young Australians in need by providing long-term support for their participation in education.

We sponsored tertiary students in The Smith Family’s core program, Learning for Life. Our funds helped students afford school fees and resources, access special programs, and get the mentoring they need to make the most of their education. The Smith Family CEO Dr Lisa O’Brien stated: “The sponsorships provided by Acquire Learning are incredibly valuable. They are giving so many young Australians the crucial resources they need to keep up and stay engaged in their final years at school, helping them prepare to successfully transition into the workforce.

Variety

“Variety are committed to empowerment – a commitment echoed by Acquire Learning. The strong start they offer children has an incredibly positive impact on their ability to succeed and realise a fulfilling life.”

Variety is a not-for-profit organisation that is committed to empowering Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs to live, laugh and learn. By distributing grants and providing practical equipment, programs and experiences, Variety helps children in need to overcome the obstacles they face so that they can live life to the fullest. Their vision is for all children to realise their potential, regardless of ability or background.

To raise money for Variety, Paralympic gold medallist Dylan Alcott participated in a world-record attempt of 24 hours of continuous wheelchair tennis. He aimed to raise $100,000 for Variety (and the Starlight Foundation) and we chipped in close to 25% of the total amount. Love Me Love You

“The people Love Me Love You work with have fallen on hard times and need the right help and support to realise their potential, which closely aligns to our purpose. At Acquire Learning, we provide advice and guidance to help people reach their best through education-to-employment opportunities.”

With the help of community partners, Love Me Love You empowers young people to take on the challenge of overcoming the stigma associated with mental health, drugs, alcohol, eating disorders and life’s hardships. The charity is a support pathway that empowers young people to get back to school, back to sport and back to life.

We were part of the charity’s event “March With Me”, which saw a group of dedicated people march over 200km in 4 days around the bay of Melbourne to raise $100,000. Acquire Learning were the major event sponsor, assisting with the costs associated in running such an event. We continue to work with the charity through their workshops with sport clubs where they look to help people achieve the best future possible.
